Instead of chasing balance… maintain balance. Instead of waiting for life to slow down, learn how to breathe while life keeps moving.
So often we think balance will come later—when things calm down, when our schedules clear, when life becomes easier. But the truth is, life rarely slows down on its own.
Real balance isn’t a perfect, static state. It’s a dynamic process—more like riding a bicycle than standing still. You stay balanced by continuing to move and making small adjustments along the way.
When we shift our mindset from chasing perfect balance to maintaining balance, everything changes. We focus less on controlling life and more on strengthening our ability to stay grounded within it.
A few reminders for practicing balance in real life:
𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜. It requires movement, flexibility, and adjustment.
𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐭. Different seasons of life require different levels of commitment
𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. Acknowledge that you cannot be perfect, and allow your priorities to shift as needed.
𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬. Balance is built, not found. It involves daily, small, and intentional actions rather than waiting for a “slower” phase of life. (Habits can be built around movement, sleep, healthy eating,
supportive relationships, time in nature, practicing gratitude, or incorporating laughter and joy.)
𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 “𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬” You do not need hours to reset. Small, intentional pauses throughout the day allow you to “breathe” without stopping your life. (A 5-minute walk, hydration break, gratitude moment, check in with a friend, soak up some sun, pet a pet, or water a plant are a few examples of micro-pauses.)
𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫. A simple breathing rhythm can help reset your nervous system when life feels overwhelming.
Balance isn’t about waiting for calm. It’s about learning how to stay steady while life moves around you.
